Saturday, March 16, 2024, 10:00 am – 5:30 pm - CKUA's Performance Space, 9804 Jasper Ave.Edmonton

Broad View Script Development & Pitching Programs

NOTE: due to the EPL Strike Notice, we have secured a new location! We will be at CKUA's Performance Space, 9804 Jasper Ave. Edmonton.

Ever wonder how a new screenplay sounds when read by professional actors for the very first time? Or wonder what it’s like to hear a screenwriter or filmmaker pitch their film idea? In celebration of International Women’s Day 2024, join us to catch a glimpse into these fascinating processes!

New Screenplay Reading 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Attend our live new screenplay reading of “Her Giant Self”, a funny, heartfelt family drama written by Catharine Anne Parke, this year’s first place winner of our inaugural Script Development Program. Catharine’s script will be read by professional actors and facilitated by Edmonton’s own Conni Massing.

Synopsis: A teen girl, loyal to her devoted mom after an acrimonious divorce, faces a crisis of conscience when her deadbeat dad shows up, after years away, with a desperate request.

Admission is free. Doors close at 10:15 am. Arrive early to save your seat!

Live Pitching Event 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Every good feature film, whether a documentary or narrative, starts with a good strong pitch!

Come watch and learn as our six women finalists of our inaugural Pitching Program stand tall and pitch their story ideas to a live audience. These six women screenwriters, at various stages in their careers, will be mentored by pitching pro extraordinaire Jan Miller over three days culminating in the live pitch. Industry guests in attendance will provide additional feedback and insights. Come watch the women in action!

Admission is free. Doors close at 2:15 pm.

Audience members are invited to join us for a reception to follow with light refreshments from 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm.
